Do you remember 1970's American TV show Alice? Have you ever fancied to have a brunch in a sort of modern Cheers-alike bar being waited on by the likes of Laverne & Shirley?
Well, if you ever had such a fantasy it probably means you should be examined by a Freudian nutritionist. But it also means you can pick Londsdale Rd. CC's for your next hunger attack.
As I enter the cafe, ushered by the sweetest just baked pear pie perfume a human being can produce out of a Hoover oven, Eva, one of the two Spanish waitresses at work (basically, the one who's not at the oven) nicely suggests me to grab a seat and take the weight off my feet. I sit at one of the three wooden tables filling the left side of the room, while Anthony, who takes part in the business, is busy giving a second white coat to the walls behind the counter. Yes, you got it: it's 9 AM and it's just the four of us, despite half of Queen's Park is coping with the most common withdrawal symptoms of the morning: the lack of coffee. But it doesn't have to sound strange, since CC's, after being opened in May, is still a fairly recent venue in the area. And, as far as I've seen, this peculiarity seems to give CC's an edge. This is what makes of CC's a warm place, a bar where you can sip your coffee and have a chat with Eva, Anthony and...the oven girl.
Most of the spare space is occupied by a couple of varnished tables to support the richest banquet a breakfast buffet can offer: apart from the pear pie (which is going to take at least an hour to be eaten), the cake selection includes also a lemon and a apple pie, both sugar glossed and both at £1.50 per piece, at the same price of a black coffee. If you're feeling like having a salty break, sausages and garlic parsley garnished chicken wigs are available at £1 each. The rest of the menu includes salad and any kind of vegetable to be added as side dish.
